Our country offers nearly 6% of the world´s biodiversity. Our scenic beauty, the consolidated system of protected areas, the social and political stability, as well as service qualities allow us receive around one million and a half tourists every year.

The territorial extension of just 51,000 square kilometers represents only 0,03% of the planets surface. This enables tourists to visit different geographical zones with different climates and flora and fauna. Traveling from one zone to another is possible within 3 hours by car or 45 minutes by aircraft.

Costa Rica is surrounded by the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean, beautiful conditions, which make us a privileged country.

Heritage and culture

Costa Rican culture is a mix of ethnical groups that coexist peacefully in the country. The main influence is European, which is underlined by the Spanish language, the architecture of churches and other historical buildings. Local influences are especially visible in the typical cuisine.

An important aspect of the Costa Rican cultural heritage is peace and democracy. Ticos, the popular name of the Costa Ricans, are proud of their democratic tradition, which last already over one century and 50 years without armed forces. The lack of an army permits investment in social and environmental development increasing quality of life.

Ticos or Costa Ricans are famous for being kind, welcoming, educated and hard workers, who like to smile to and shake hands with visitors. Knowing the value of their country Ticos will do everything to guarantee and enrich your stay.

Health and Education

The Costa Rican government dedicates a big part of their income to improve education and health of its citizens. As a result of this effort we have a healthy population with high life expectancy.The water network stretches all over Costa Rica offering a more wholesome environment to its people and visitors. Regarding medical assistance a numerous amount of hospitals around the country and especially in the metropolitan area offer first class services.

The levels of illiteracy have decreased significantly in the last years, which places Costa Rica in one of the most privileged positions in Latin America and ensures a kind and generous treatment of tourists.

Our country has one of the most advanced telecommunication systems in Latin America, which allows users in almost the entire country access to fax, telephone and internet services. Most hotels in Costa Rica offer cable or satellite TV including European and American channels. A great variety of international magazines and newspapers are displayed in stores and hotels.

Transportation

Traveling in Costa Rica is very simple. Public transportation is cheap and available in all cities throughout the country. Costa Rica offers high quality bus and or taxi services to the main tourist attractions. Another way to travel quickly is the aircraft service, which offers daily flights to the principal tourist spots.

Car rental companies are very competent and have a nice amount of vehicles available to satisfy every customer's needs.
